Aung San Suu Kyi has become a global icon for the indivisibility of freedom, standing alongside Mahatma Gandhi, the Dalai Lama, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the international struggle for democracy, dignity, and human rights. Over a period of six months, American-born journalist Alan Clements, and the first American ordained as a Buddhist monk in Burma, met with Aung San Suu Kyi (and her key colleagues) at her residence in Rangoon. In their taped conversations (that were smuggled out of the country) that conversed on the core issues defining Aung San Suu Kyi's values, vision, and philosophy.
